Synthroid is used for treatment of low thyroid activity and curing or suppressing various types of goiters. It is also used with surgery and other medicines for dealing with certain types of thyroid cancer.
How Taken
Take Synthroid as prescribed by your physician. Use Synthroid on an empty stomach at least one hour before or two to three hours after a meal. It is recommended that you use your dosage one hour before first meal unless otherwise ordered by your doctor. Take Synthroid with about 250cc of clear water. Synthroid works best if it is taken at the same time daily. It may take a month before you see an improvement in your symptoms. Synthroid will commonly have to be taken for life, except in the situations of impermanent low thyroid activity associated with thyroid inflammation and in patients who are taking Synthroid on a trial basis. For children or patients who cannot swallow whole tablets- Crush the pill and blend in 1 or 2 teaspoons of water, and give using a spoon or dropper as soon as possible after preparation. Don't keep the mixture for later use. Do not mix crushed pills in soybean infant formula.
